Sirkit Supports the Future of Cybersecurity at University of Alberta
There is a persistent talent shortage in Canada’s tech sector. Yet, the country’s tech industry delivers a direct economic impact estimated at $113.4 billion CAD. This accounts for approximately 5.5% of the overall Canadian economy and makes it more important than ever to support the growth of the local cyber and tech community.
Recently, we had the privilege of being one of the lead sponsors for Hack the Computer, a cybersecurity hacking competition hosted by students at the University of Alberta. For us, this was more than just sponsorship. It was an opportunity to support and connect with emerging talent because the event encouraged healthy competition, problem-solving, skill-building, and put students in front of tech employers eager to hire.
Hack the Computer stood out because it wasn’t just another industry-run event. It was student-run. As a company deeply committed to cybersecurity and continuous learning, we saw this as an opportunity to connect with up-and-coming talent and showcase what makes Sirkit a great place to work.
Throughout the day, our team engaged with students – offering guidance, discussing industry trends, and sharing insights into real-world security best practices. The competition was intense, with students tackling beginner-friendly and advanced challenges designed to mimic real-world cyber threats. The energy in the room was undeniable. Participants showcased quick thinking, problem-solving abilities, and teamwork – all essential skills for a successful career in cybersecurity. We were thrilled to meet so many bright and passionate individuals who represent the future of cybersecurity in Canada.
